Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)

An EMA is a weekly payment of up to £30 for UK students aged 16 and 17 continuing their studies in Further Education. For further details, visit www.direct.gov.uk/ema

Residential Bursary and Public Transport Award Residential Support Scheme

The Further Education Residential Support Scheme helps you to access education not available within reasonable daily travelling distance of your home. For further information, please contact the national helpline on 0161 2347021, or our Student Advice Team.

Learning Support Fund

This fund could help you if you need extra financial support because you have higher than expected costs, have an unforeseen financial emergency, or face serious financial problems during your course. Please contact our Student Advice Team.

Childcare Fund

This is available to students aged 19 and over who are studying with us for more than six hours per week. Children should be up to 15 years old and be with a registered childminder, crèche or nursery.

Students with a disability

The Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) can help with the extra costs you may face as a result of attending your course and your disability. The guide Bridging the Gap provides more information, and is available from our Student Advice Team.

Adult Learner Grant (ALG)

The Adult Learning Grant is a means-tested grant which provides a weekly payment during term-time to adults aged 19 or over, who are studying full-time for a first level-2 (five GCSEs or equivalent) or level-3 qualification (two A-Levels or equivalent). For more information, visit www.direct.gov.uk
