Course content

A course for students wanting to participate in music, dance and art.

Based at three different locations, we work in partnership with Leeds College of Music and the Northern School of Contemporary Dance to bring these three creative subjects to students at each venue.

Each tutor teaches one term at each venue. Subjects are linked using a theme and students get to meet the other groups at the end of the course to share their journey and experiences at the end of year celebration event.

Students need to commit to the entire year, so must be interested in all three subject areas. To ensure students get the most form this project, participants must be able to engage in music, dance and art.

The art part of the course is based on developing students’ skills and abilities with making experimental mixed media work. We support students to develop their own ideas and express themselves and make their own art work based on the given theme (yet to be decided).

Teaching
During the first couple of sessions, the team will spend time getting to know students so that the course can be planned appropriately to ability. We will spend a few sessions warming up and give students the opportunity to socialise and get to know each other. Most sessions start with a discussion and demonstration of techniques, then moves on to students making their own work; we usually finish the session with a discussion about each others work.
