Reorganised and extended as part of the recent building programme, this extensive and fully equipped bench shop/assembly area is adjacent to a wood-machining facility containing industrial standard equipment (some of which is computer-programmable) equal to, and more varied than, that found in most professional environments. As part of the upgrading process, both replacement and additional surface planers, thicknessers and a new vacuum press for laminating were purchased.
All methods of traditional and modern construction, along with decorative techniques and finishes, are achievable. Students are able to convert, joint, shape, bend and laminate timber and timber-based products by hand, by powered hand-tools or machine tools, plus veneering, lathe work and carving.
The area also incorporates a workshop for spray and traditional finishing and decorative paint techniques. The upholstery workshop has relocated and is equipped with industrial sewing machines and pneumatic staplers. The focus is all types of furnishings and interior decoration.
