Student Union

Whatever your course, whatever your age, enrolling at the College automatically entitles you to become a member of the Student Union. The Union is run by an executive committee made up of elected students. Their role is to help you resolve any issues you may have about the College and the way it’s run and to get your voice heard at the highest level. There are also course representatives who will relay your comments or concerns to course tutors, the principal, and the Student Union.

The Student Union has a number of societies for you to enjoy, and they’re a great way to meet people. These are run by students for students. You can sign up for societies at any point throughout the year in the Student Union office.  We like to encourage students to set up new societies. That way you can spread the word about your favourite interest and meet like minded people. The nearby University of Leeds and Leeds Metropolitan University have a number of societies you can also join. Information on these will be available at our Freshers’ Fair.

We also host all sorts of events: parties, tournaments, charity events, band nights, and awards ceremonies. Why not tell us what type of event you would like the Student Union to hold?   We try to make use of both the College and city centre venues, giving you the big picture on what Leeds has to offer.  We also host fun and games throughout the year, from five-a-side football tournaments, bowling and laser quest trips. We even hold Wii tournaments in our large studio theatre.

The College has a dedicated Sports Development Officer who is on hand to provide assistance and encouragement by getting you active and involved. We run a number of fitness and dance classes and this year, for the first time, we’ll be entering a football team into the over 18’s British University & College Sports League. If there are any sports you want to play, we’ll try and help you set up a club, and possibly help with funding and equipment, as well as looking for competitors in the local area.

Our message is to ‘Get involved!’

If you have any ideas and we mean any ideas, simply get in touch. This could include suggestions for community projects, charity fundraisers or fun, niche sports you think nobody has heard about ….yet!  Getting involved is a fantastic way to get your work or interests noticed in College or around Leeds.

If you want to get involved with the Student Union committee or become a course representative, feel free to come into the Student Union office and have a chat. You’ll find the office in the Mosaic Café at Blenheim walk.

Finally, you’ll be glad to hear that our Student Union is affiliated with the NUS, making you eligible to purchase the NUSextra card, which  guarantees you great discounts in many of Leeds’ high street shops, and online. The card costs £10 and can be ordered online at www.nus.org.uk.
