Photography

Continued investment every year means the photography resource has an extensive range of equipment, both traditional and digital.

Cameras for film include 35mm, medium format (6x4.5, 6x7) and large format (5x4), with a wide range of lenses and accessories for all formats.

Digital equipment includes a range of Canon DSLR cameras with an extensive choice of lenses, from 15mm fisheye to image-stabiliser zooms as well as a full range of complementary Canon accessories.

Medium-format equipment is a combination of the latest Mamiya 6x4.5 AFD cameras combined with Phase One P25+, full-frame 39mp digital backs, using Capture One software on Macs. We also interface our Phase One P25+ digital system with our traditional Sinar 5x4 cameras, for full technical control over image creation.

We have a full range of Elinchrom professional studio, location-pack and mono-light flash lighting equipment, which also includes fibre optic, professional ringflash and all-weather outdoor kit.

Our fully equipped lighting studios can be used as one large space or divided into a number of smaller spaces. Fitted with a Bowens High Glide lighting rig they have a full complement of studio-specific equipment, including Expan background roll system, light table, table–top infinity coves and a full range of Elinchrom soft boxes, reflectors and peripheral studio equipment. With the assistance of our workshops at the College, we can also construct small sets within studios for specific requirements.

Traditional film is supported by our wet processing and printing darkrooms, where we have ‘hand-processing’ facilities for black and white film and 32 enlargers across two darkrooms for black and white hand-printing, on either resin-coated or fibre-based material. We can generally print up to 24x20” in either darkroom but, in addition, have the facility in our specialist darkroom to print to a size of 6x3 feet. In this darkroom we are also able to work with experimental printing techniques and traditional processes.
